Oral history interview with Stanley Edward Adams and Elsie Adams, 1984 March 30.

Interview with Stanley Edward Adams and Elsie Adams concerning their experiences as co-owners of Adams Abstract Company in Robert Lee, Texas. Stanley Edward Adams is also a rancher and Chairman of the Board of City Savings in San Angelo, Texas. He discusses his family background, his work on his father's farm in Robert Lee, his employment with Tom Green County Abstract Company in San Angelo in 1927, the oil booms of Coke County, the origin of Adams Abstract Company in 1945, and his lease acquisitions in West Texas. Stanley Edward also talks about his experiences drilling for oil in Jamison Field in the 1950s, his purchase of farms and raising sheep, goats, and cattle, the problems of farmers and ranchers, his son, Stanley Edward Adams, Jr.'s activities in the Texas banking business, his experiences during the Depression in Coke and Tom Green Counties, and his civic and trade association activities. Elsie Adams discusses her family background, her experiences growing up on a farm near Miles, Texas, teaching at Klattenhoff and Robert Lee public schools, the procedures of abstract companies, the different types of abstracts and the purpose of title policies, as well as the charges for abstract work, her entry into the real estate business, advertising the businesses, her civic activities, and the development of Lake Spence.
